At the corner of Yonge and King stands one of Toronto’s most iconic addresses. A building with over a century of history and character.
Originally built in 1879 as the head office of The Dominion Bank, the building was designed to embody strength, elegance, and progress. By 1914, it had become one of Toronto’s earliest skyscrapers. A 12-storey Beaux-Arts landmark that echoed the legacy of Toronto’s financial rise.
Inside, the Grand Banking Hall and 40-ton vault still remain, preserved as part of the building’s architectural legacy.
In 2006, the original structure was joined by a modern 51-storey tower, transforming 1 King West into one of the tallest and most slender residential buildings in Canada.
The 48 was founded in 2014 with a simple but powerful idea: that space can shape the way we work, connect, and grow. Perched on the 48th floor of the historic 1 King West, our home is more than a landmark, it’s a symbol of Toronto’s evolution, from its banking roots to its modern skyline.
This building has seen generations of ambition. It’s where deals were made, futures were built, and ideas took flight. Today, we carry that legacy forward, not just in architecture, but in spirit.
We didn’t set out to create just another office space. We built The 48 to be a community. A place where entrepreneurs, executives, and creatives could learn from each other, grow together, and stand out from the crowd.
Here, you’re surrounded by people who are building something. Not just businesses, but careers, movements, and futures. It’s a space where introductions turn into collaborations, and where quiet focus meets shared energy.
